Friends of Newbury Town Library Meeting Minutes Thursday, April 13, 2017 12:15 pm
Attendees: Maureen Haley, Tammy Cotter, Pam Myers-Kinney, Patty Olson, Jean Ackerly, Katelyn White, Dick Passeri, Joan Friedman.
Received $1000 Sponsor Donation from Institution for Savings for Plant, Bake & Book Sale. Received 8 Raffle item donations and 8 signed books by local authors. Waiting on ‘asks’ for plants from corporations such as Lowe’s as well as sponsorship donations from other banks and companies. Dick Passeri thanked the Board for increasing the value of the library, and it’s visibility in the town.

Discussion for alcohol for adult reading program/retirement party. Reviewed steps to obtain license. Maureen made the motion to proceed on obtaining liquor license, all present were in favor. Belen Weiler-Hawes responded with a no via email prior to meeting. Tammy, Jean and Maureen will handle paperwork, etc. Due to weather, Plant Sale moved to Sat; May 27, 8:30 – 12:30.

Unable to attend. Will be responsible only for social media promotion of events, etc. in the future as her time allows due to other commitments. Newsletters will be continued by Maureen and Tammy.
Financials- still keeping to budget, at $8300 for income. Keeping pace for what we’re spending to what’s coming in. Almost up to $1000 with sales from book sale room – within 1 yr. Brought in $1600 with events. Upcoming -plant sale is our largest fundraising event. Flags, hats and mugs, are now in the black by about $30. There are still a few to sell. $700 for Museum of Science passes is due May 31. .Proposed setting up a Friends Membership table on Voting Day, May 9.
Suggested voting on pursuing alcohol license and the majority of the Board was in favor. Regarding Plant, Bake & Book Sale, Patty asked what type of baked goods we’re looking for, the Board agreed on cookies, brownies, etc. and not to ask bakeries this year as we received an over-abundance last year of large cakes, etc.. We will still ask patrons to bake and register on Signup Genius.

Corliss Bros. donated seeds to the Seed Library. March Programs were successful. April 25 Town Meeting to include vote for 4 more library hours to begin July 1. Two authors scheduled for June. New library cataloging system, and training, to be in place during May.

Reviewed Summer Reading Program Kick-Off prizes and food, still on budget. May hire someone to do henna tattoos or use students from Triton. Has assistant for Minecraft Program.
