On Wednesday, Oct. 7th, we held our monthly meeting of the Friends of the Newbury Town Library.
We have 26 new Friends members in the month of September! Tammy will draft a letter to those members whose status is unknown and send it out after the Harvest Festival in an effort to increase active members.
Events/Harvest Festival Update:
We are in the final preparation stages of the Harvest Festival and 15th Anniversary Celebration! We had a Q&A session: “ask and we will do our best to answer” and nailed down the final “To Do” details and created a timeline of events.
First and foremost, there are opportunities for community members to help make this day fun and, most importantly, to help us raise money to support the Library Programs . We need helping hands before, during and after the event, more chili cooks for the Cook-Off Contest and bakers for Bake Sale Table. Julie has updated the Signup List, so If you are able to donate time, items, or cook, please sign up at: Sign Up Genius. We would all be very grateful. Thank you!!
Belen has been doing a bang-up job of PR with the Daily News, The Town Common, the Chamber of Commerce, Facebook, Macaroni Kid, NES, GNMFC and more. Please share our Facebook posts with your local friends and relatives!
Julie will create basic small signs for raffle ticket prices & descriptions, chili tasting and serving bowl prices ($2.00 to do tastings and $3.00 for a full bowl) and will pick up the raffle drum at Taylor Rental. She and Tammy will be managing the Chili Cook-Off from 11-1 then awarding top 3 winner prizes.
Maureen presented her final list of 12 raffle items and we are fortunate to offer high value items to be won. Chances will be 5 for $5.00 or 25 for $20.00. The Golden Ticket will be $5.00 per chance to win 2 Blue Man Group tickets. Tickets will be sold up until 1:45 and then we’ll pull the winners. With Jen Schnaffner’s help, Maureen handled the paperwork with Town Officials to obtain a raffle permit. Jen will ask the NES PTA if we can borrow their cash box for the day.
The music will be inside, acoustic only, from 10-1. Tammy will have two other local, young musicians get together with Ben Janvrin for the day.
The children’s games will be on-going outside all day. Inside will be Leaf Art crafts from 10-11 with Shelley and then the Storyteller Performance, “Goblins and Giggles” by Rona Leventhal, will be from 11-12 with Erin Tuomi, Youth Services Librarian.
The 15 yr. Anniversary Celebration cake will be presented about 1pm. Lois Anderson (past Trustee) and Amy Sadkin, Library Director, will say a few words to kick off the rest of the party.
Review of Account balances – Our current balance is roughly $8447.00!! We received a few anonymous, very generous, donations and appreciate them immensely!
Jenn has officially transitioned out of the role and we’ve welcomed Eileen as Treasurer.
Museum Passes – do we remove the requirement of Friends Membership? Time ran out and we had to table this discussion for the next meeting.
Fall Flatbread Fundraiser or Oregano’s? Decided on Oregano’s and Belen will contact the owner regarding available dates.
Holiday Cookie Swap? Will need to reserve date at next meeting.
Website/Intern update – did not discuss this, but Maureen is currently handling our website updates.
The Library will be looking to fill Ruth True’s position of Assistant to Youth Services Librarian as she has accepted a position at the new Salisbury Library – Congratulations Ruth, we’ll miss you! The position is paid, 10-14 hours a week, Wednesdays, Fridays and some Saturdays. Please see Amy Sadkin for details.
Amy has booked a “Star Party” with the North Shore Astronomy Club. Event scheduled for 11/10 (rain date 11/12) at 6:30pm.
Erin is in need of some supplies for the Youth Programs: black felt, mini pumpkins/gourds, wide ribbon, yarn and long fleece remnants. She will draft her needs and we will ask our members via Mailchimp.
Next Meeting Date: Wednesday, November 4th, 10am. ALL WELCOME!
