Our first restaurant fundraiser and trivia night, held at Mission Oak Grill in Newburyport, was a great success and a whole lot of fun. Thank you very much to all who were involved, especially Mission Oak Grill, Jennifer and Paul Myette, and Julie Maneikis, . Great team effort!
I don’t know about you but I am dreaming about my garden right about now. I’m already planning what new plants to add and where I might put in some new raised beds. If you are like me, then you’ll want to mark your calendar for our Plant and Bake sale fundraiser which will be on May 17th from 10-2Pm. As usual, we will be seeking plant and bake donations as well as volunteers for the day of.
In other fundraising news, we are going to be adding a Chili Cook Off component to our Book Sale in the Fall. Our membership director, Julie Maneikis, will be managing the chili cook off. We are excited!
Last but not least, we are excited to announce that our FOL Book Shop is up and running! The library generously donated the use of the old computer room to us for the sale. We have begun transitioning the sale books into the space. We still need help with shelving (hoping to get some wall shelves in brackets, maybe). Also, if you are interested in volunteering to help us keep the room in order. If you would be willing to spend just an hour once every couple of weeks, we would greatly appreciate it. If you are interested, please send us an email: email@example.com
Our membership continues to grow! We have 135 members presently. We are in the process of sending out one final renewal reminder to those folks whose membership is up for renewal. If we do not hear from them by March 1st, we will mark them inactive.
Since it is February school vacation week, it’s a great time to become a member and make use of our museum passes: http://newburylibrary.org/museum-passes/
Speaking of museum passes… did you know that a Legoland Discovery Center is opening in Boston in May? We are super excited about it and have begun exploring whether a library pass to such a place is a possibility for the library. More on this as we find out.
As for our finances, our accounts remain stable. Jennifer Myette, our treasurer, will be meeting with an accountant at the end of February to take care of our taxes.
As for news from the library, we are sad to note that Youth Services Librarian Olivia Gatti has moved on. I’m sure if you are like us, you treasured having her in our library. Thank you for everything, Miss Olivia! You will be missed.
With that said, the library is actively seeking a replacement (big shoes to fill!). If you know of anyone interested, please forward on this link: https://fontl.wordpress.com/2014/02/12/newbury-town-library-youth-services-librarian-job-posting-please-spread-the-word/
Finally, here is our upcoming calendar:
